The Role
KGM is searching for a motivated Geological Data Technician to join our team to manage and maintain the integrity of geological and mineral deposit data within the company’s database. The work involves collecting, organizing, and ensuring the quality of data used for mineral resource modelling and estimation, often using specialized software and adhering to industry standards. Duties will include but will not be limited to the following:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data integrity and quality assurance:
Ensuring the accuracy and quality of data, which includes implementing quality assurance and control (QA/QC) procedures for database input.
Database administration:
Managing user access, codes, and software configurations. They may also design reports based on the data.
Data management:
Capturing, storing, and managing raw geological data, such as drill hole, sample, operational production data and geotechnical information.
Technical support:
Providing support to geologists and operations teams on database integrity, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and QA/QC procedures.
Software utilization:
Using and supporting specialized software for geological data capture and management, such as Fusion and Microsoft Access which can be used in the field and in the office.
About You
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
BSc Degree or MA in Geology, Mining Engineering, Computer Science or related field of study with strong background in data management or numerical studies from .
Experience
a minimum of 3-5 years of Experience with Geological database use, and proficiency in Fusion or related Database software background in geological data or geoscience Previous experience within mining, Cement factory, heavy industry, or similar operational environments is essential.
Use of Excel or data management to review and collate information.
A background in geological mapping, surveying, or mineral sampling is advantageous.
Proficiency in database use and administration is essential.
The ability to capture and process sample analysis data, both manually and electronically, is a key skill.
A strong foundation in general computer use is necessary, especially for handling large datasets and using technical software.
A foundational knowledge of statistical and geostatistical methods for understanding the purpose of the data being managed.
Knowledge of mine planning processes, mining value chain, and operational production reporting.
Awareness of HS&E standards and regulatory requirements in the mining industry.
