Terms of Reference to Undertake Baseline Survey for Children in Street Situations (CISS) project in Dessie and Kombolcha
Brief Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced consultant to undertake a baseline survey for our Children in Street Situations (CISS) project in Dessie and Kombolcha. The purpose of this baseline survey is to gather data on the current situation of children living in street situations in these areas, identify the root causes of this issue, and inform the development of effective interventions to support these children. The consultant will be responsible for designing and implementing the survey, collecting and analyzing data, and producing a comprehensive report with recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a literature review on the situation of children in street situations in Dessie and Kombolcha, including existing policies, programs, and interventions
- Design a survey methodology and data collection tools, including questionnaires, focus group discussion guides, and observation checklists
- Recruit and train a team of enumerators to collect data from children in street situations, their families, and community members
- Collect and analyze data on the demographic characteristics, living conditions, health and well-being, education, and economic activities of children in street situations
- Identify the root causes of children living in street situations, including poverty, family breakdown, and lack of access to education and employment opportunities
- Produce a comprehensive report with findings, analysis, and recommendations for interventions to support children in street situations in Dessie and Kombolcha
- Present the findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and community leaders
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as sociology, psychology, education, or public health, from a recognized Ethiopian university
- At least 5 years of experience in conducting research and surveys, preferably on issues related to child protection and welfare
- Strong knowledge of research methodologies and data analysis techniques, including statistical software such as SPSS or STATA
- Experience in working with vulnerable populations, including children and adolescents
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
- Fluency in Amharic and English, with the ability to write reports and present findings in English
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality results
