Terms of Reference Individual Consultancy Service to Conduct Barrier Analysis for L4R project in Sidama, Ethiopia

Brief Summary

The Beleqet Jobs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced consultant to conduct a Barrier Analysis for the L4R project in Sidama, Ethiopia. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and analyzing the barriers that hinder the adoption of recommended agricultural practices among smallholder farmers in the project area. The consultant will work closely with the project team to design and implement the Barrier Analysis, and provide recommendations for addressing the identified barriers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review to identify existing information on the barriers to adoption of recommended agricultural practices among smallholder farmers in Sidama, Ethiopia
  • Design and implement a Barrier Analysis methodology, including data collection tools and sampling strategies
  • Collect and analyze data from smallholder farmers, extension agents, and other stakeholders in the project area
  • Identify and prioritize the key barriers to adoption of recommended agricultural practices among smallholder farmers
  • Develop a report detailing the findings of the Barrier Analysis, including recommendations for addressing the identified barriers
  • Present the findings and recommendations to the project team and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting research or working on agricultural development projects in Ethiopia, with a focus on smallholder farmers
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing Barrier Analysis or similar studies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and prioritize key barriers to adoption of recommended agricultural practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with smallholder farmers, extension agents, and other stakeholders
  • Fluency in English and Amharic is required, with knowledge of Sidama language being an added advantage
  • Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is an added advantage
