Job Title: Senior Hydrologist / Hydraulic Engineer

Brief Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Hydrologist / Hydraulic Engineer to join our team in Ethiopia. The successful candidate will have a strong background in hydrology and hydraulic engineering, with a proven track record of leading projects and teams. The Senior Hydrologist / Hydraulic Engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on hydrological and hydraulic aspects of water resources development projects, including flood control, irrigation, and water supply systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct hydrological and hydraulic studies, including data collection, analysis, and modeling, to support the development of water resources projects
• Design and develop hydraulic structures, such as dams, weirs, and canals, in accordance with international standards and best practices
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians on hydrological and hydraulic aspects of projects
• Collaborate with other teams, including civil engineers, environmental scientists, and sociologists, to ensure integrated and sustainable project design and implementation
• Develop and implement hydrological and hydraulic monitoring systems to support project operation and maintenance
• Prepare technical reports, designs, and other documents to support project planning, implementation, and evaluation

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Hydrology, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field from a recognized Ethiopian or international university
• At least 8 years of experience in hydrology and hydraulic engineering, with a focus on water resources development projects in Ethiopia or similar contexts
• Professional registration with the Ethiopian Association of Civil Engineers or similar professional body
• Strong knowledge of hydrological and hydraulic principles, including flood hydrology, groundwater hydrology, and hydraulic structures design
• Experience with hydrological and hydraulic modeling software, such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and SWAT
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality technical reports and present complex information to non-technical audiences
• Strong team leadership and management skills, with experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers and technicians
• Fluency in English and Amharic, with excellent written and spoken communication skills in both languages
