Biology Lab Assistant
Brief Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Biology Lab Assistant to join our team. As a Biology Lab Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of the biology laboratory, including preparing materials and equipment for experiments, maintaining a safe and organized work environment, and assisting instructors and students with laboratory activities. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, materials, and experiments for biology classes and research projects
- Maintain a safe, organized, and clean laboratory environment, adhering to established safety protocols and procedures
- Assist instructors and students with laboratory activities, including demonstrations, experiments, and data collection
- Order and inventory laboratory supplies, equipment, and materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement
- Catalog, maintain, and dispose of biological specimens, cultures, and other laboratory materials according to established protocols
- Collaborate with other laboratory staff to develop and implement new laboratory procedures and protocols
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, reporting any issues or malfunctions to supervisors
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
- At least one year of experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in a biology or biotechnology laboratory
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, procedures, and regulations, including those related to biohazardous materials and equipment
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with instructors, students, and other laboratory staff
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications, with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems
- Ability to work in a team environment, with a strong commitment to collaboration, flexibility, and customer service
