Safety Officer

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and health of employees, visitors, and the general public at our workplace. This will involve developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and procedures, conducting regular safety inspections, and providing training to employees on safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
• Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions
• Provide training to employees on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices
• Investigate accidents and incidents, and implement measures to prevent recurrence
• Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, and develop strategies to improve safety performance
• Collaborate with management and employees to promote a safety-first culture
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records and reports

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a safety role, preferably in a similar industry
• Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety, such as NEBOSH or IOSH, is an advantage
• Knowledge of Ethiopian labor laws and regulations, particularly the Ethiopian Labor Proclamation
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in MS Office and experience with safety management software is an advantage
• Fluency in Amharic and English is required, with knowledge of other local languages being an advantage
