Duty station-Arba Minch office

The GIZ CLM-II project anchors and scales Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) across Ethiopia, with a model region in the Lake Chamo catchment (Arba Minch). It tackles deforestation, steep-slope cultivation, unregulated water abstraction, erosion, declining productivity, and degradation of wetlands and riparian forests—threatening aquatic biodiversity and livelihoods. Within the BMZ core theme “Life without Hunger – Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems,” the module strengthens climate‑sensitive, cross‑sectoral land and water governance, advances gender‑responsive approaches, and advises on sustainable agricultural practices, contributing to BMZ 2030 and feminist development policy. CLM‑II collaborates with German Development Cooperation measures (e.g., Forests4Future, KfW SLM‑V) and World Bank programs (CALM/Resilient Landscapes and Livelihoods) to support ILM governance, evidence‑based planning, micro‑watershed rehabilitation, and community innovations that reduce land degradation and improve water regulation.
