Job Title: Junior Environmental, Health and Safety Officer (Junior EHS)
Brief Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Environmental, Health and Safety Officer (Junior EHS) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of our environmental, health, and safety management systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in the field of EHS and contribute to a dynamic and growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential environmental, health, and safety hazards and implement corrective actions
- Assist in the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures, and training programs
- Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics, including incident rates, near-miss reports, and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure EHS considerations are integrated into operational planning and decision-making
- Provide support for incident investigations, including root cause analysis and recommendation of corrective actions
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date EHS records, including training records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an EHS role, or a related field (internship experience will be considered)
- Knowledge of Ethiopian environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards, including the Ethiopian Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic’s Occupational Safety and Health Proclamation
- Basic first aid and emergency response training
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Fluency in Amharic and English (written and spoken)
