Job Title: Import Officer

Brief Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Import Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the importation process of goods, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and laws, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient import operations. The Import Officer will play a critical role in supporting the company’s logistics and supply chain management functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the importation of goods, including customs clearance, transportation, and warehousing
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards governing imports, including customs regulations, tax laws, and product safety standards
  • Prepare and submit necessary documentation, including customs declarations, invoices, and certificates of origin
  • Liaise with suppliers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Provide training and support to staff on import procedures and regulations
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with imports, including delays, damage, and non-compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
  • At least 3 years of experience in import operations, logistics, or a related field
  • Knowledge of Ethiopian customs regulations, tax laws, and product safety standards
  • Experience with import documentation, including customs declarations, invoices, and certificates of origin
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with ability to learn and use other software applications as required
  • Certificate in logistics or supply chain management from a recognized professional body, such as the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) or the International Association of Traffic and Logistics Management (IATLM)
