Import Director
Brief Summary
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Import Director to lead our import operations in Ethiopia. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire import process, from procurement to delivery, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. The Import Director will play a key role in developing and implementing import strategies, managing supplier relationships, and optimizing logistics to drive business growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement import strategies to achieve business objectives, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with international suppliers, negotiating contracts and agreements to secure best prices and terms
- Manage the entire import process, including procurement, customs clearance, transportation, and delivery, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify new business opportunities, trends, and risks, and recommend strategies to mitigate them
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and logistics, to ensure alignment and effective communication
- Monitor and analyze import performance metrics, including costs, lead times, and customer satisfaction, and implement corrective actions to improve performance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Logistics, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
- Minimum 5 years of experience in import management, international trade, or a related field, with a proven track record of success
- Strong knowledge of Ethiopian import regulations, customs procedures, and international trade agreements
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers, customers, and stakeholders
- Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in a business setting
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions
- Experience with import management software and technology, including ERP systems and logistics management tools
- Professional certifications, such as CIPS or CITP, are an added advantage
