Job Title: Environmental, Health and Safety Officer (EHS Officer)
Brief Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Officer (EHS Officer) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our organization’s environmental, health, and safety management systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. The EHS Officer will work closely with various departments to identify and mitigate potential risks, promote a safety-first culture, and drive continuous improvement in our EHS performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards
- Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections to identify potential risks and hazards, and implement corrective actions
- Provide training and awareness programs to employees on EHS policies, procedures, and best practices
- Investigate incidents and accidents, and develop preventive measures to minimize recurrence
- Collaborate with department heads to develop and implement EHS objectives, targets, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Monitor and report on EHS performance, including metrics such as injury rates, environmental impacts, and compliance with regulations
- Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and other stakeholders to stay up-to-date on EHS trends and best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
- Minimum 3 years of experience in EHS management, preferably in a similar industry or sector
- Knowledge of Ethiopian labor laws, environmental regulations, and international EHS standards (e.g. ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on collaboration and influencing others
- Fluency in Amharic and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or ISO 14001/45001 are an added advantage
