Job Title: Early Warning and Information Management Specialist

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Early Warning and Information Management Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining early warning systems to predict and prevent disasters, as well as managing information to support decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the development of effective early warning systems in Ethiopia.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement early warning systems to predict and prevent disasters, such as floods, droughts, and other natural hazards
• Collect, analyze, and disseminate data and information to support decision-making and early warning systems
• Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to gather and share information on potential disasters
• Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify areas of high risk and prioritize early warning efforts
• Develop and maintain databases and information systems to store and manage early warning data and information
• Provide training and technical assistance to stakeholders on early warning systems and information management
• Develop and implement strategies to ensure the sustainability and scalability of early warning systems

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Geography, or Disaster Management, from a recognized Ethiopian university
• At least 3 years of experience in early warning systems, information management, or a related field
• Proven experience in designing and implementing early warning systems and managing information to support decision-making
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret large datasets
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
• Fluency in English and Amharic, with the ability to communicate in other local languages an advantage
• Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders in Ethiopia an advantage
• Strong technical skills, including proficiency in database management, GIS, and other relevant software applications
