Job Description

Truck Dispatcher Responsibilities:

 

Operational Coordination & Planning: Proficiency in routing and scheduling trucks efficiently, especially for long-distance, local deliveries, and managing cross-border logistics (e.g., Addis-Djibouti corridor)
Communication & Negotiation: Ability to clearly communicate with drivers, brokers, and customers and manage relationships with third-party logistics providers.
Technical Proficiency: Competence in using GPS tracking software, fleet monitoring systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) for reporting.
Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Proactive approach to managing unexpected issues such as traffic, weather, breakdowns, or road closures, and handling high-pressure situations.
Documentation Management: Skilled in preparing waybills, dispatch records, freight bills, and ensuring all transport permits are in order.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous in monitoring fuel consumption, driver performance, and vehicle maintenance logs.
Scheduling drivers to make freight deliveries or collect shipments and packages.
Communicating with customers about freight details, delivery or pickup times, and special handling requests.
Planning pre-determined routes and accommodating route changes as needed.
Preparing dispatch documents, as well as generating freight bills and invoices.
Maintaining records of dispatched calls, driver routes, route changes, as well as delivery and pickup times.
Keeping track of transportation regulations and laws to ensure that truck drivers comply.
Reviewing drivers’ logs, including dispatched calls and arrival times.
Monitoring truck repairs and maintenance schedules.
Logging customer shipping schedules and complaints.
Proficiency in office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Express.
Ability to monitor drivers’ logs, truck maintenance schedules, and repairs.
Knowledge of applicable transportation regulations and laws.
Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
 

About You
Requirements and Qualifications

Education: A Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Business Administration, or a related field is typically required.
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in transport operations, fleet management, or logistics is commonly required, particularly for bachelor’s degree holders.
Industry Knowledge: Strong familiarity with Ethiopian road networks and traffic regulations is essential.
Work Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, nights, to accommodate continuous, transport operations.
Physical Aptitude: Ability to work in a high-intensity, fast-paced environment.
