About the Job
Background
The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is a non-partisan, non-governmental umbrella organization working to advance women’s rights and gender equality in Ethiopia. As part of its ongoing initiatives—particularly in promoting economic justice and addressing unpaid care and domestic work (UCDW)—NEWA seeks to document and showcase its impact through high-quality short documentary videos.
To enhance visibility, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement, NEWA intends to produce compelling visual stories that capture real-life experiences, community transformations, and key achievements from its interventions in Adama and Addis Ababa.
2. Objective of the Assignment
The overall objective of this assignment is to professionally document and showcase success stories and impact narratives from NEWA’s initiatives through engaging and high-quality short documentary videos.
Specific objectives include:
Capture authentic success stories of beneficiaries and stakeholders
Highlight the impact of the WE CARE programs on communities, particularly in relation to unpaid care and domestic work
Produce visually compelling content that can be used for advocacy, reporting, and donor engagement
3. Scope of Work
The selected consultant/production firm will be responsible for:
Planning, filming, and producing:
Two separate documentary videos (Adama and Addis Ababa), each approximately 2 minutes long
One combined highlight video integrating key footage from both locations
Conducting interviews with selected beneficiaries, stakeholders, and project staff
Capturing high-quality supporting footage (B-roll) of activities, environments, and community interactions
Developing a clear storytelling structure for each video
Providing voice-over narration where appropriate
4. Key Deliverables
The consultant/firm is expected to deliver:
Two fully edited documentary videos (each approximately 2 minutes):
One for Adama
One for Addis Ababa
One highlight video combining key moments from both locations
All videos must include:
English subtitles (accurate and well-synchronized)
Intro and outro segments with NEWA branding
Clean transitions, color correction, and professional editing
5. Production and Technical Requirements
The production must meet professional standards, including:
Video quality: Minimum Full HD (1080p)
Audio: Clear and professional sound using external microphones
Lighting: Proper lighting setup for interviews and indoor scenes
Storytelling: Structured narrative including interviews, voice-over (if applicable), and B-roll
Editing: Smooth transitions, color grading, and cohesive storytelling
Subtitles: Accurate English subtitles synchronized with audio
6. Logistics
Per diem and accommodation for fieldwork (outside Addis Ababa) will be covered in line with NEWA’s standard rates
NEWA will facilitate coordination with beneficiaries and stakeholders where necessary
7. Timeline
Filming to be conducted as per agreed schedule
First draft of all videos to be submitted within one week after completion of filming
Final versions to be delivered after incorporating feedback within an agreed timeframe

About You
Required Qualifications
The consultant/firm should have:
Experience in documentary production and storytelling
Technical capacity with professional video and audio equipment
Experience working with NGOs, development projects, or social impact storytelling is an advantage
