Job Title: Hydrologist
Brief Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hydrologist to join our team. As a Hydrologist, you will be responsible for studying the properties, distribution, and circulation of water in the environment. Your expertise will help us understand and manage water resources, predict and prevent water-related hazards, and develop sustainable solutions for water conservation and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field and laboratory measurements to collect and analyze data on water quality, quantity, and flow
- Develop and implement hydrologic models to simulate and predict water behavior, including flood forecasting and drought management
- Design and implement water management systems, including water supply, irrigation, and drainage systems
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as engineers, geologists, and biologists, to develop and implement comprehensive water resource management plans
- Communicate complex hydrologic data and findings to stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, and the general public
- Stay up-to-date with new technologies and methodologies in hydrology and apply them to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of water resource management
Requirements
- MSc or Ph.D. in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university or a reputable international university
- At least 3 years of experience in hydrology, water resources management, or a related field, with a strong background in hydrologic modeling and data analysis
- Proficiency in hydrologic modeling software, such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or SWMM, and experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop effective solutions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Fluency in English and Amharic, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Registration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Electricity or a related professional association is an asset
