Job Title: General Manager – Genetic Improvement Project
Brief Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead our Genetic Improvement Project. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the overall strategy, direction, and implementation of the project, ensuring its objectives are met and that it contributes to the development of the agricultural sector in Ethiopia. The General Manager will provide leadership, guidance, and expertise to the project team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the project’s strategic plan, aligning with the organization’s overall vision and mission
- Lead and manage the project team, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure the achievement of project objectives
- Establish and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, and private sector organizations
- Oversee the development and implementation of genetic improvement programs, including breeding, testing, and dissemination of improved crop and animal varieties
- Ensure the project’s compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards, including those related to biosafety, intellectual property, and environmental protection
- Manage the project’s budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and value for money
- Monitor and evaluate the project’s progress, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in a relevant field, such as agricultural sciences, genetics, or biotechnology, from a recognized Ethiopian or international university
- At least 10 years of experience in a senior management position, preferably in a genetic improvement or agricultural development project
- Proven track record of leadership and management, with experience in team building, coaching, and mentoring
- Strong understanding of the Ethiopian agricultural sector, including its challenges, opportunities, and stakeholders
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Fluency in English and Amharic, with proficiency in other local languages an advantage
- Experience in project planning, budgeting, and management, with knowledge of monitoring and evaluation methodologies
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to think strategically and innovatively
