Organizational Overview

 

Nexus Ethiopia is a national non-governmental and non-profit making humanitarian organization established and registered as a National NGO as per the new CSO’s proclamation 1113/19 with the registration number of 6225. Nexus Ethiopia is mandated to operate in all regions and City Administration in Ethiopia.

In partnership with HELVETAS Ethiopia, Nexus Ethiopia is implementing the project entitled “Skills for Employment in Tigray (SET) Project piloting the project in Mekelle and expanding to other towns.

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

1. Safe Driving and Vehicle Management

Provide safe, timely, and efficient transportation for staff, visitors, and project activities.
Operate vehicles in compliance with national traffic laws and organizational safety standards.
Conduct daily vehicle inspections including fuel, oil, tires, brakes, lights, and general condition.
Maintain proper cleanliness, functionality, and roadworthiness of the assigned vehicle.
Ensure all vehicle documents (insurance, registration, permits) are valid and updated.
Maintain accurate logbooks including mileage, fuel consumption, routes, and trip details.
Coordinate timely servicing and report mechanical issues immediately to the supervisor.
2. Security, Safety, and Risk Management

Follow all organizational security protocols, including movement authorization, route planning, and check-in/check-out procedures.
Ensure safe travel in post-conflict and potentially high-risk operational areas in accordance with security guidance.
Maintain awareness of road, security, and environmental risks and take appropriate precautions during travel.
Report all incidents, accidents, delays, or security concerns immediately to the supervisor.
Participate in basic safety, security, and defensive driving awareness sessions as required.
3. Field Operations and Program Support

Support field logistics by transporting materials, equipment, supplies, and documentation for project activities.
Provide transport support for trainings, workshops, job fairs, stakeholder meetings, and field visits.
Support movement planning for project teams in coordination with supervisors and field staff.
Assist with coordination of field schedules to ensure timely and efficient implementation of activities.
Provide logistical support during community outreach and other project-related events.
4. Emergency and Incident Response

Respond appropriately to vehicle breakdowns and ensure timely communication with the supervisor and service providers.
Ensure safety of passengers during emergencies, accidents, or unexpected incidents.
Provide basic emergency assistance when required, including securing the scene and supporting communication with relevant authorities.
Maintain readiness for emergency movement or urgent transport requirements related to project activities.
5. Compliance, Conduct, and Administration

Adhere to organizational code of conduct, humanitarian principles, and ethical standards at all times.
Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with staff, partners, and community members.
Assist with basic administrative or logistical tasks when not engaged in driving duties.
Maintain accurate records of fuel usage, maintenance, and trip documentation.

About You
Qualifications and Experience

Minimum completion of secondary school education.
Valid Ethiopian driving license (preferably Grade 3 or equivalent).
Minimum of 3 years driving experience, preferably with NGOs or similar organizations.
Experience operating in field-based or rural environments is an advantage.
Good knowledge of local routes, language, and road conditions in the assigned area.
Skills and Competencies

Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safe driving practices.
Ability to follow security protocols and operational procedures.
Basic understanding of emergency response and safety procedures.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
High level of integrity and professionalism.
