Job Title: Construction Engineer (Material Management Focused)

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Engineer with a strong focus on material management to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the procurement, storage, and utilization of construction materials and equipment. The ideal candidate will have excellent technical, communication, and project management skills, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective material management plans and strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement and delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Conduct site inspections to monitor material usage, identify potential waste or inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to source and purchase high-quality materials and equipment that meet project specifications and budget requirements.
  • Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure timely and safe transportation of materials and equipment to and from the construction site.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of material receipts, storage, and issuance, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Analyze material usage and identify areas for improvement, providing recommendations for cost savings and efficiency gains.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university (e.g. Addis Ababa University, Bahir Dar University).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction engineering, with a focus on material management, preferably in a large-scale construction project.
  • Professional certification in construction engineering or a related field, such as a registered engineer with the Ethiopian Ministry of Construction and Urban Development.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction materials, methods, and equipment, as well as Ethiopian construction regulations and standards.
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and experience with construction management software (e.g. Primavera, MS Project).
  • Fluency in English and Amharic, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
