Job Description
Purpose of the Position
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing all disbursements and collections in line with accounting standards and company policies. The role also ensures proper handling, organization, and confidentiality of accounting records and financial information.
Key Responsibilities
Verify and process payment documents, ensuring all supporting documents are complete before cheque processing
Review payment requests for proper approvals (Proforma invoice, purchase request, payment order, GRN)
Monitor expenses, cheque disbursements, and advance settlements
Supervise junior accountant activities including filing and petty cash management
Perform daily bank reconciliations and monitor cash movements
Follow up on periodic and recurring payments (rent, utilities, transport, insurance, etc.)
Prepare and submit monthly government taxes (VAT, WHT, TASS)
Verify and post journal entries (PV & JV) in the accounting system
Conduct weekly and monthly inventory reconciliation with store records
Participate in monthly physical stock counts and reporting
Ensure proper functioning and compliance of cash registers
Support internal and external audits by providing required documents
Prepare cost sheets for imports
Report financial irregularities immediately
Maintain organized, safe, and compliant working environment
Assist in implementing accounting controls and procedures
Perform any other duties assigned by management
About You
Required Qualifications
Education: BA Degree in Accounting
Experience: Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Software Skills: Proficiency in Peachtree Accounting (mandatory), MS Excel, and MS Word
