Job Title: Plant Protection Head

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Protection Head to lead our plant protection team in ensuring the health and productivity of our crops. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective plant protection strategies, managing pests and diseases, and collaborating with other departments to achieve our agricultural goals. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive plant protection plans to prevent pests and diseases and minimize yield losses
- Conduct regular field inspections to monitor crop health and identify potential threats
- Collaborate with other departments, such as irrigation and fertilization, to ensure integrated crop management practices
- Manage and supervise a team of plant protection personnel, providing guidance and training as needed
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and technologies in plant protection and make recommendations for their adoption
- Develop and manage budgets for plant protection activities, ensuring cost-effective and efficient use of resources
- Prepare and submit reports on plant protection activities, including pest and disease surveillance, control measures, and crop yields
Requirements
- BSc or MSc degree in Agronomy, Entomology, Plant Pathology, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
- At least 5 years of experience in plant protection, preferably in a similar role or industry
- Proven knowledge of plant protection principles, practices, and technologies, including integrated pest management (IPM) and good agricultural practices (GAP)
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in supervising and motivating teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with colleagues, farmers, and other stakeholders
- Fluency in Amharic and English, with ability to communicate effectively in both languages
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Willingness to work in a rural or field-based setting, with frequent travel to farms and other agricultural sites
