Job Title: Disaster Risk Management Expert

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Disaster Risk Management Expert to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective disaster risk management strategies to mitigate the impact of disasters on communities and ensure sustainable development. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments and identify potential disaster risks in various regions of Ethiopia
• Develop and implement disaster risk management plans and strategies in collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities
• Provide technical assistance and training to local authorities, emergency responders, and community members on disaster risk management and emergency response
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement early warning systems and emergency response plans
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of disaster risk management plans and strategies, and make recommendations for improvement
• Represent the organization in national and international forums, and contribute to the development of disaster risk management policies and guidelines

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Disaster Risk Management, Emergency Management, Environmental Science, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university or a reputable international institution
• At least 5 years of experience in disaster risk management, emergency response, or a related field, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective disaster risk management strategies
• Strong knowledge of disaster risk management principles, practices, and frameworks, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction
• Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities in Ethiopia, with a strong understanding of the country’s disaster risk management context
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and build strong relationships with stakeholders
• Fluency in English and Amharic, with knowledge of other local languages an added advantage
• Ability to travel frequently to different parts of Ethiopia, with a valid driver’s license and experience driving in Ethiopia
