LAF Officer Job Description

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced LAF Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, conducting investigations, and providing expert advice on LAF-related matters. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective LAF strategies and procedures to prevent and detect money laundering and terrorist financing activities
  • Conduct thorough investigations into suspicious transactions and activities, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including compliance, risk, and audit teams, to identify and mitigate potential LAF risks
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on LAF policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in LAF laws, regulations, and industry best practices, and advise management on necessary actions
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies, and other external stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a LAF or compliance role, preferably in a financial institution or regulatory body
  • Professional certification in LAF, such as CAML or CFE, is an advantage
  • Strong knowledge of Ethiopian LAF laws and regulations, including the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Proclamation
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to think critically
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and experience with LAF software and systems
  • Fluency in Amharic and English, with ability to communicate effectively in both languages
