Job Title: Farmer Training and Support Officer

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Farmer Training and Support Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing training, technical support, and guidance to farmers to improve their agricultural productivity and livelihoods. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the development of the agricultural sector in Ethiopia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement training programs for farmers on best agricultural practices, crop management, and livestock production
  • Conduct field visits to provide technical support and guidance to farmers on farm management, soil conservation, and irrigation
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector companies, to promote agricultural development and improve farmer livelihoods
  • Collect and analyze data on farmer training and support activities to inform program development and improvement
  • Facilitate linkages between farmers and markets, including buyers, suppliers, and other value chain actors
  • Provide support to farmers in accessing credit, inputs, and other resources to improve their agricultural productivity and livelihoods

Requirements

  • BSc degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
  • At least 3 years of experience in agricultural extension, training, or support services, preferably with an NGO or government agency
  • Proven knowledge of agricultural practices, crop and animal production, and soil conservation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with farmers, communities, and other stakeholders
  • Strong facilitation and training skills, with experience in adult education and community development
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate with other stakeholders to achieve common goals
  • Fluency in Amharic and English, with ability to communicate in other local languages an advantage
  • Willingness to travel extensively to rural areas, with a valid driver’s license an advantage
