Job Summary<\/p>\n
The Safety Officer will lead, implement, and monitor environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with Ethiopian labor laws, environmental regulations, and company standards within the manufacturing facility. This role is critical in fostering a proactive safety culture, identifying workplace hazards, and reducing risks to employees and the environment.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Establish and lead the Occupational Safety and Health Committee
\nEnsure all processes and machinery do not pose risks to the health\/safety of workers.
\nProvide, track, and enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all employees.
\nEstablish and update Emergency Preparedness plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and fire safety systems.
\nServe as the first responder for workplace incidents, first aid provision, and accident investigation.
\nRegister employment accidents and occupational diseases and report to the local labor inspection service.
\nOversee waste management processes, including segregation, recycling, and disposal of hazardous\/non-hazardous waste.
\nMonitor environmental pollutants air emissions, wastewater, and noise levels to meet local regulations.
\nMaintain accurate records for environmental audits and ensure timely closure of findings.
\nEnsure the facility operates in compliance with environmental regulations regarding natural resource usage.
\nConduct daily, weekly, and monthly walkthrough inspections of production lines, storage areas, and machinery.
\nIdentify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
\nMaintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all hazardous chemicals used on-site.
\nConduct EHS induction for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
\nOrganize regular toolbox talks and training sessions on topics such as ergonomics, chemical handling, and fire prevention.
\nFoster a safety-first culture through awareness campaigns and visible leadership.

Education:\u00a0Diploma and above in Environmental Health & Safety Science, Occupational Health and Safety\/ Environmental Engineering and related fields
\nMinimum of 0 years of Experience and above.
\nKnowledge:\u00a0knowledge of Ethiopian Occupational Safety & Health legislation
\nLanguages:\u00a0Amharic and English.
\nApplicants who live around Alemgena are preferred.
\nRequired Competencies<\/p>\n
Ability to work on a shift basis.
\nAnalytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
\nCourage to question personnel of higher rank regarding safety violations.
