Job Title: Regional Surveillance Officer

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Surveillance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the implementation of surveillance activities in the region, working closely with local health authorities, and providing technical assistance to strengthen disease surveillance systems. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on public health in Ethiopia.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement regional surveillance plans and strategies to detect and respond to public health threats
• Collaborate with local health authorities, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to strengthen disease surveillance systems
• Provide technical assistance and training to regional health staff on surveillance, data collection, and data analysis
• Monitor and analyze surveillance data to identify trends and patterns, and provide recommendations for disease control and prevention
• Coordinate with national and international partners to ensure alignment and coordination of surveillance activities
• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local health authorities, community leaders, and healthcare providers

Requirements

• BSc degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
• At least 3 years of experience in disease surveillance, epidemiology, or a related field, with a focus on public health
• Proven experience in designing and implementing surveillance systems, data analysis, and interpretation
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
• Fluency in Amharic and English, with knowledge of local languages an added advantage
• Willingness to travel frequently to rural areas, with a valid driver’s license and experience in driving a 4×4 vehicle
• Familiarity with Ethiopian health systems, policies, and regulations, with knowledge of international best practices in disease surveillance
