Job Title: OHS Officer

Brief Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced OHS Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our organization’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management system. The OHS Officer will ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, providing a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review the organization’s OHS policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement control measures
  • Provide training and awareness programs for employees on OHS issues, including emergency procedures and first aid
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a safety-first culture and encourage employee participation in OHS initiatives
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of OHS incidents, inspections, and training programs
  • Stay up-to-date with changes to OHS laws, regulations, and industry standards, and ensure the organization’s compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field from a recognized Ethiopian university
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an OHS role, preferably in a similar industry or sector
  • NEBOSH certification or equivalent international certification in OHS
  • Proven knowledge of Ethiopian labor laws and regulations, including the Ethiopian Labor Proclamation
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to promoting a safety-first culture
  • Fluency in Amharic and English, with excellent report-writing and presentation skills
